Ruth Arnold Art & Illustration
Hello. Want to jump straight in? Click below. Or keep reading to find out more…
I have recently launched a small Etsy shop, where you can find my art work on ceramic mugs, fine art greetings cards, and giclee prints, which will also be available soon. All proceeds (minus basic running costs) will be donated to the Open Medicine Foundation (you can read why in my bio!)
A little about my work… My portfolio is in two sections. The main part – the narrative work – is designed to appeal to all ages. Much of it is intended for children’s books. The fine art section includes a modern take on fairy tale characters, exploring the (personal) subject of disability through a slightly fantastical lens. My artwork for these characters is more experimental, involving multiple textures and leans towards a more adult audience.
Look out for my recent illustration project “Eric and the Piskey.” It will be published later next year. The brief was to create images for a book of tales by Peter Parkinson. Main characters are Eric, a retired school teacher, and Issaker, a Cornish Piskey. It’s an illustrated book for adults, with chapter heading vignettes and a few full page images in monochrome line drawings. Not my typical style, but a great project to work on. I can’t show any images until it’s released for publication but more will be revealed at a later date.
